£28,500 awarded to supermarket employee

The personal injury team at Thompson’s NI Solicitors successfully concluded a case against one of the UK’s largest supermarkets.

The USDAW member was tasked with cutting a cable tie following a delivery of stacked boxes that had arrived that morning; he was provided with a box knife to carry out this task. As the USDAW member began to cut the cable tie, the box knife snapped resulting in the blade piercing our client’s left index finger.

Our client was transferred to the Ulster Hospital, Dundonald, where he was x-rayed and advised that he had cut through a tendon. He underwent emergency surgery under local anaesthetic. Following surgery, he needed intense physiotherapy and had to take 11 weeks off work.

The USDAW member was referred to Thompsons NI in June 2020. Within 6 months, the personal injury team at Thompson’s NI had successfully secured compensation without the member having to attend court.
