Thompsons NI is concerned by the recent recall of 1,159 patients' records following the treatment by Consultant Urologist Dr Aidan O’Brien. Dr O’Brien treated patients in the Southern Health and Social Care Trust, particularly in Craigavon Area Hospital.
So far 271 patients and families have been contacted by the Trust regarding their treatment. The Executive has now ordered a public injury to examine the clinical practice of Dr O’Brien. Nine cases have been identified that meet the threshold for a serious adverse incident review with 6 more cases to be reviewed in more detail.
The news of the recall comes as an independent inquiry into Dr Michael Watt is raised to a public inquiry.
