Thompsons NI secures compensation for a firefighter in Northern Ireland

Thompsons NI expert personal injury solicitors have secured a compensation settlement for a firefighter injured in an accident at work.

Our client is employed as a irefighterf and had driven an appliance out of the appliance room and then had to return to the room to open rear double doors. As he was walking across the floor he slipped and fell on a leakage of foam concentrate. This had leaked from the appliance that he had brought out earlier.

As a result of the fall, the Claimant suffered injury to his right heel area and has ongoing difficulties which resulted in his medical retirement.

The case against the employer

Thompsons NI specialist solicitors pursued a claim against Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service & the manufacturer of the appliance Brown Coachworks Limited.

Liability was denied in this matter and so our specialist personal injury team, based in Belfast instructed an independent consultant orthopaedic surgeon to examine the client and to write a medical report.

Our medical evidence confirmed that our client developed Achilles tendinopathy but that this condition is degenerative and that our client had this degenerative condition prior to the injury. The Defendant’s medical however stated the Achilles tendinopathy was unrelated to the accident and our client sustained soft tissue injuries only as a result of the accident.

Despite this matter being listed for hearing the personal injury experts at Thompsons NI initiated a successful period of negotiations, resulting in an agreed settlement sum between both defendants for his injuries, prior to the Court hearing. The settlement sum was three times the amount of the initial offer.
