The personal injury team at Thompsons NI Solicitors has successfully concluded a case against one of the UK’s largest supermarkets.
A USDAW member was employed as a dot.com shopper and as part of his job needed to work in an aisle as a picker when he slipped on spilled cooking oil. He sustained a significant injury to his knee which involved him having to undergo surgery.
Pre-proceedings, the defendants offered our client £5,400 in compensation with a 10 per cent contributory negligence reduction. This offer was rejected and High Court proceedings were issued. Negotiations were entered into and a settlement was reached without the need for hearing.
Thankfully, our client made a very good recovery from his injury and accepted an offer seven times more than the original offer (on a full liability basis) which included reimbursement for his private surgery.
