Thompsons NI Solicitors' expert trade union lawyers have secured a redundancy pay package in an Industrial Tribunal for a Unite member.
Our client, a Unite member, had been in her employment as a designer since August 1999. Unfortunately, she was made redundant in December 2018. Although her employer did pay her some of the redundancy money she was entitled to, they failed to pay her all of it.
We pursued a tribunal claim on our client’s behalf to recover the remainder of her redundancy money.
The industrial tribunal in Belfast confirmed that our client’s employer was liable to pay her a further redundancy payment. As an added bonus, it was possible to secure this decision without the need for our client to attend the hearing.
Once the decision from the Industrial Tribunal was made, our client was able to obtain the money she was owed from the Northern Ireland Redundancy Payments Service, which is a government body that can make payments to employees from the National Insurance fund if they are having difficulty recovering their redundancy payment, or where their employer is insolvent.
Liam Gallagher, the union official who dealt with our client’s case, said: “This case shows that Unite Legal Services will take action to ensure that the redundancy entitlements of our members are honoured in full.”
